Chelsea the former Premier League winners before the Leicester City fairy tale, have had a season to forget. With a fiasco of an exit from the Capital One cup, an exit from the FA Cup and a rather modest farewell from the UEFA Champions league for the next entire season, it has been one season they would like to replenish from their memories as soon as possible. With Jose Mourinho unable to spark the passion from his players that won him the League last season, it was inevitable that he was to be shown the exit door.
But all that’s in the past now, Antonio Conte is Chelsea’s new boss. He has inherited a squad full of talented players who themselves would feel, haven’t lived up to their potential. But with no European contest to aspire to, players seem to lose interest in the club
Thibaut Courtois
The Chelsea goal keeper has been in the rumours since the season ended. Talks of him planning a move back to Spain have raised many concerns at the Bridge, however the Belgian put the rumour mill to rest with these remarks
“Yes, I’ve spoken to him,” Courtois said. “We had a good chat.”
“Of course. There are rumours from the press always popping up.
“But I’m calm with it. My season has not been the very best like last year, when when we won the Premier League. But still, I’m very confident in myself that I will have a good Euros and another good season at Chelsea.”
“With injuries, my season has been different with Chelsea and we didn’t have the best season. For myself, there were a few goals when I could have done better, but I still made good saves”
Willian
Chelsea’s player of the season and the only glimmer of passion in their otherwise rather distressed squad has been Willian. The Brazilian joined Chelsea in 2013 and was part of Chelsea’s title winning season, in fact he only missed two games in the entire campaign. With Mourinho at the helm at United, the Red Devils have supposedly offered a £60m offer for the winger. But the Chelsea boss feels Willian has a lot more to offer, the offer has been snubbed by the Brazilian who seems to be in good spirits after his meeting with Antonio Conte.
Eden Hazard
Hazard picked every award last season there was to get, in Chelsea’s annual award ceremony but the Belgian has had a season which by even his own standards was miserable. The Belgian has therefore come out to say that he owes the Blues another season. His statement comes in the wake of major interest from Manchester United, who under their new boss Jose Mourinho wanted him at the Theatre of Dreams.
Conte needs to revive the wining spirit in his players and bring hope back to the Bridge. With many major players willing to stay at the club it seems there is a genuine regard for their belonging at the club.
