Gennady “GGG” Golovkin hit back at Saul “Canelo” Alvarez as he branded an “a**h**e” by the Mexican icon during the pre-fight press conference on Friday.
“Well I did not react immediately to this because probably it was the interpreter’s fault, he smoted it down a little bit but what can I say now, that he’s just a, I don’t know a red mouse.” Golovkin said.
“I don’t take it personally. This is sport. I’m not trying to be two different guys as has been said.” he added.
Golovkin, the WBA and IBF middleweight champion, will move up a division to face Canelo on September 17, at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, USA.
The first fight between Gennady and Caneli ended in a controversial draw in 2017. The rematch held a year later, ended with a unanimous decision victory for Caneli who now, become the undisputed super middleweight champion.
“I feel 100% comfortable. Even if we are going to fight in his weight division, I don’t care,” Gennady said.
During at press conference, Canelo held a two-minute face-to-face with Golovkin on stage, whom he disqualified for some comments made within the framework of this long and bitter rivalry.
“For me this is personal. It is my way of being. I do not pretend to be another person or say different things in the media or in another place. It’s personal to me because he said a lot of things.” Canelo said.
He’s like two different people. He pretends to be a good guy but he’s not. He’s an a**h**e,” Canelo added.
Gennady’s last fight was a knockout win against Japan’s Ryota Murata in April.
While Canelo come from conceding the second defeat of his career against the lightheavyweight champion Dimitri Bivol on May 7, at the T-Mobile Arena.
