Former unified middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin will return to the ring on June 8 at the Madison Square Garden in New York.
The fight would be the first for Golovkin (38-1-1, 34 KOs), since losing a twelve round narrow decision in a rematch against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in last September.
This time, the 37-year-old boxer will cross the gloves with the undefeated contender in the Top 10, Kronk Gym boxer Steve Rolls of Toronto, Canada, in a 12-round duel at a maximum weight of 164 pounds.
Golovkin vs. Rolls will mark the beginning of an exclusive agreement of six fights over three years between GGG Promotions and DAZN (the biggest streaming sports platform).
A media tour in two cities with the two boxers will take place next week, and it will begin at Madison Square Garden on Monday, April 22, and end in Los Angeles on Tuesday, April 23:
In a press release, Golovkin said he was excited to get back into the ring.
“I am very excited to be returning to the ring and bringing the Big Drama Show back to Madison Square Garden. The Garden’s fans are fantastic,” Golovkin said.
“I love boxing and I promise to bring the best of me to everyone who will be watching me in an all-action fight with Steve Rolls. I am very happy that GGG Promotions has a new home at DAZN.” Golovkin added.

Rolls is undefeated, going 19-0 in his fights. He’s won by knockout 10 times in those fights. The 35-year-old is easily the worst of Golovkin’s four major options, which included the three mentioned above and unbeaten Pole Kamil Szeremeta.
“I sincerely want to thank DAZN and GGG himself for giving me the opportunity to challenge one of the best fighters in the world,” Rolls said.
“But let me be clear: I won the national championship and I represented my country, and Golovkin is just a guy. I come here to win and make my name one of the best middleweights in the world.” he added.
