LaLiga defending champion Barcelona spent couple times in their pre-season trips around the world in Japan and United States ahead of 2019/20 season.
It has taken two months, but Barca finally come into a season with a poor start. Their poor form is threatening to make for a disastrous campaign.
Barcelona defender Gerard Pique admitted all pre-season has not helped the Catalan club and started the new season not very well and suffered two defeats in their opening six games.
“The pre-season did not help at all for a good start in LaLiga. There was a lot of travel and little training,” Pique told reporters.
“Many of us notice it and we aren’t in sync yet, not only Messi, but we must continue because we are forced to win, it is a setback.” Pique added.
Barcelona skipper Lionel Messi missed several games at the start of the campaign after suffering a calf injury in their pre-season. He was forced off against Villarreal in the first half of his side’s 2-1 win and is suffering with a groin problem. The Argentine is set to miss weekend’s clash with Getafe, according to reports.
“Look now what has happened to Messi, but there are no excuses, in the team there are qualified people to replace him and move on, although we hope he will be out as short a time as possible.” Pique said.
“There are quite a few players who are not sync because it is what it is. I do not know the severity of his injury and I hope it is as little as possible.” he added.
Ernesto Valverde’s side has been in their poor form so far. They are currently 7th place in the LaLiga standings with 8 points after playing 6 games.
Barcelona need to do something to enhance their league position, despite it being early at present. After this weekend, Barcelona then will welcome Serie A clubs Inter Milan in the Champions League. They also will welcome rivals Sevilla at Camp Nou in LaLiga.
