Gerard Pique Says Real Madrid and Barcelona Control Spanish Media Support European Super League

Barcelona senior defender Gerard Pique made a surprising statement. The 35-year-old player revealed that the big media in Spain are controlled by Barcelona and Real Madrid officials to support the implementation of the European Super League.

As is known, the issue of the European Super League has not died until now. The plan is still being discussed by a number. Among them the President of the Spanish League, Javier Tebas or the President of Real Madrid, Florentino Perez.

Gerard Pique himself is a player who strongly opposes the existence of the European Super League. According to him, the European Super League only benefits rich clubs and oppresses small clubs.

“In Spain it’s different than in England, I see how there (re: England) a lot of people are against it. In my opinion, it (European Super League) will only destroy football,” said Gerard Pique quoted by Marca.

“The European Super League will destroy football because only the big clubs benefit, I don’t think Real Madrid and Barcelona are playing the right way, by this opinion I mean against my club,” he added.

Furthermore, Gerard Pique blamed the media in Spain which is not independent. According to him, the big media in Spain have been controlled by club officials, so that the European Super League can be realised.

“It has become very political here in Spain, the press is controlled by various people who support it (European Super League), controversy has become a nightmare because in Spain it is like that,” he added.

As additional information, the European Super League is the movement of a number of giant European clubs fronted by Real Madrid, Juventus and Barcelona against the greed of the European Football Federation (UEFA).

Various English clubs then agreed to join in the European Super League. The prospect of the European Super League itself will later replace the Champions League. In addition, teams that are members of the European Super League will no longer compete in their respective domestic leagues.
