Former Chelsea player, Gianfranco Zola said the Blues -Chelsea’s nickname – could be able to compete in the top flight of the Premier League 2022-2023. However, he feels the quality of the Chelsea squad must first be improved from now on.
As is known, Chelsea became one of the top teams that was scattered at the beginning of the 2022-2023 season when Thomas Tuchel was still in charge. From the first six matches, the Blues were only able to bag three wins, two defeats and one draw.
Not wanting the club to get worse, the German coach was sacked and replaced by Graham Potter. Under the tutelage of Graham Potter, Chelsea was unbeaten to date. As a result, the Blues are currently ranked fourth with a collection of 20 points on the Premier League table for 2022-2023.
Graham Potter’s men are seven points adrift of Arsenal, who are currently dominating the table, then three points away from Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur who are in second and third place at the moment.
The competition for the title will be even more fierce considering that each team has a point difference that is not far away. Gianfranco Zola who is a Chelsea legend is still very confident that his former team will be able to win the Premier League crown this season.
“It’s still possible (to win the title). Chelsea are a very good team and have a big squad. They can compete in the Champions League and even in the Premier League,” said Gianfranco Zola, quoted by Football London, Friday (21/10/2022).
According to him, Chelsea is not a team that should be underestimated in the title race. However, Gianfranco Zola assesses that the Blues still have a lot to improve if they want to come out as champions of the 2022-2023 Premier League.
“You can’t rule out a team like Chelsea from the title race. I mean there are a lot of tough games for the top teams, but Chelsea will be there.” “But obviously Chelsea have to make a step forward to improve, but they will be there.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea will face a tough test. Because, they will face Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday 22 October 2022. Victory is a fixed price for the Blues if their position does not want to be shifted.
The reason is, they are only one point ahead of Manchester United in the standings. Manchester United currently sits in fifth place with 19 points.
