Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud is certain to part with the Blues in the summer of 2021. This is inseparable from Giroud’s contract, which is set to expire on June 30, 2021.
However, Chelsea are reportedly not going to let Giroud go. The French striker had also been offered a contract extension by Chelsea, but it turned out that Giroud had turned it down.
In a report submitted by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Thursday (3/6/2021), Giroud refused a new contract from Chelsea because he wanted to leave in the summer of 2021. Giroud has also been eyeing a club that could accommodate him.
The club in question is AC Milan. Yes, Giroud intends to defend the Rossoneri because the Italian team indeed seemed interested in working with him from the start.
Because he wanted to join Milan, Giroud not only refused a contract extension from Chelsea. But the 34-year-old striker also did not accept the cooperation that West Ham United had given him.
According to the Italian Football report, the reason for Giroud’s refusal was because he wanted to leave the Premier League. He feels challenged to play in a league he thinks is new and his destination is Italy.
Giroud’s determination to play at Milan can also be seen from his willingness to receive a salary that is less than what he got at Chelsea. As is known, at the Blues the 34-year-old player has been offered a contract of 4.2 million euros per year.
The nominal salary is the same as what Giroud currently gets at the South West London team. So, there is no salary reduction in Giroud’s new contract.
However, Giroud is still reluctant to accept a new contract from Chelsea. Giroud is more willing to have his salary reduced to 4 million euros per season as long as he can join AC Milan.
Stefano Pioli’s squad is also interested in signing Giroud because it wants to strengthen his team’s attack power next season. Especially considering that Milan will return to the Champions League, then Pioli wants his squad to be even stronger
