Saul “Canelo” Alvarez won a unanimous decision over Daniel Jacobs, unifying three middleweight titles on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas.
Three judges scored Canelo’s win 116-112, 115-113, and 115-113 in the second fight, $365m deal he signed last fall with DAZN.
Canelo wasn’t at his best, but he won anyway. He had an almost insurmountable lead by the point because of his great early work.
However, former unified middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin was not particularly impressed by the performance offered by the two boxers he has faced in the past.
“Frankly, I was expecting much more. It was just like a sparring match,” Golovkin told DAZN after the bout.
“It was a little boring. They are both high-level boxers, they should give more to the audience. I didn’t see any emotion. I didn’t see anything special. It was just a good sparring match.” Golovkin added.
Canelo coach Eddy Reynoso on the other hand, he also admitted that the fight was not very exciting, but blamed Jacobs for not really trying to win.
“It left me with some bitter taste in the mouth, since Jacobs survived the twelve rounds,” Reynoso said. “It becomes difficult to offer the kind of performance you want. But I’m happy at the same time because we have another title.” he added.
Golovkin will face Steve Rolls (on June 8 at Madison Square Garden. The Kazakh admitted that his last fight against Canelo on last September will not bother him as much as some people might think.
“Not at all. First of all, deep in my heart, I didn’t feel like I lost it. Second, I enjoy my career, I enjoy my family, I enjoy my time and I’m sure there will be a third fight.” Golovkin added.

Canelo, meanwhile, he admitted will face Golovkin for third time if the fans want to see.
“I’m just looking for the biggest challenge. That’s all I want. If the people want another [Golovkin] fight, we’ll do it again, and I’ll beat him again. That’s why I’m here. That’s why I was born for. To defend what’s mine I’ll fight anyone.” Canelo said.
