Graham Arnold Resigns as Socceroos Head Coach, Becomes the Spotlight of British Media

One of the leading British media also highlighted Graham Arnold’s decision to resign from the Australian national team coaching position after the match against the Indonesian National Team ended in a draw.

“The Australian Football Association will try to find a new coach before the next World Cup Qualifiers in less than three weeks after Graham Arnold resigned as Socceroos head coach on Friday.”

“Arnold has been in dialogue with the Australian Football Association this week, formulating an exit strategy from the job he has held since 2018, and has now resigned before Australia’s next match against China in October,” wrote the Guardian.

In the following paragraph of the media founded in Manchester in 1821, it was also mentioned about the results that were not as expected by Australia when playing against Bahrain and Indonesia as the background for Arnold’s decision to resign.

In the first match of the third phase of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, Australia lost to Bahrain in a home match. Meanwhile, on the second matchday, when visiting the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Australia was unable to score a goal when drawing against the Indonesian National Team.

The Guardian also wrote a comment from Arnold who decided to resign after the match against the Indonesian national team.

The Australian national team is currently ranked fifth in Group C of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers in the Asian zone with one point. Below Indonesia, which has collected two points, and ahead of China, which has suffered two defeats.

Next, Australia will meet China and Japan on the third and fourth matchdays in mid-October.

“Our plan is not to recruit a temporary coach. Our plan is to recruit a permanent coach, a coach we can trust to share our vision and achieve the best results to bring this team to the 2026 World Cup,” said Football Australia CEO James Johnson.
