INEOS as the company owned by 25 percent of Manchester United, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, wants to keep Erik Ten Hag as coach of the Red Devils until the end of this season. However, if Manchester United continues to get bad results before this season ends, INEOS will reportedly appoint Graham Potter as a replacement for Erik Ten Hag.
According to an ESPN report, INEOS has approached Graham Potter, who is currently unemployed. The English coach is considered to be able to revive Manchester United’s unstable performance under the guidance of Erik Ten Hag.
Manchester United’s performance this season has been like a roller coaster. After getting a sensational victory, it is not uncommon for Manchester United to immediately lose in the next match.
Take the example of last week’s match. After a dramatic 3-2 win over second place in the 2023-2024 Premier League standings, Aston Villa, Manchester United immediately fell 1-2 to a mediocre team, Nottingham Forest.
As a result of the inconsistent results above, Manchester United was thrown to eighth place in the 2023-2024 Premier League standings with 31 points. Manchester United is 14 points adrift of Liverpool at the top of the standings.
Apart from that, Manchester United has also been eliminated in the Champions League and English League Cup 2023-2024. Outside the Premier League, Manchester United is still in the third round of the 2023-2024 FA Cup.
Therefore, Erik Ten Hag must improve Manchester United’s performance. If it continues like this, the hammer of dismissal is just a matter of time for Erik Ten Hag.
Then the question arises, can Graham Potter really boost Manchester United’s performance? The answer is of course doubtful.
Apart from bringing Brighton & Hove Albion to the middle of the 2022-2023 Premier League, Graham Potter has made no proud achievements as coach. He also failed miserably when handling Chelsea.
In fact, the Chelsea he was managing at that time was inhabited by the players who brought the Blues – Chelsea’s nickname – to the 2020-2021 Champions League! As a result, Graham Potter’s career with Chelsea lasted less than eight months (8 September 2022 to 8 April 2023). because it resulted in dismissal.
