Gregoria Mariska Tunjung successfully qualified for the quarterfinals of the Kumamoto Masters 2024 after defeating Ratchanok Intanon in 2 consecutive games, Thursday (11/14/2024).
The Gregoria vs Ratchanok battle was fierce at the beginning of the first game. However, Gregoria was able to lead 10-5 after winning three points in a row. The first game interval ended 11-7, Gregoria leading.
After the interval, Ratchanok narrowed the gap. Ratchanok only got to 11-13.
However, after that, Gregoria again increased her lead by winning five consecutive points with a score of 18-11. Gregoria then won the 19th point after smashing towards Ratchanok’s forehand. Gregoria won 19-11.
After that moment, Ratchanok was able to win two points, but Gregoria was able to stop Ratchanok’s consecutive points through pressure directed at the backhand and won game point, 20-13. Gregoria finished the first game with a score that was quite far apart 21-14.
Entering the second game, Ratchanok who lost badly in the first game tried to perform better. She was able to win four points at the beginning to lead 4-0.
However, Gregoria did not stay silent and immediately took revenge by equalizing the score to 4-4.
The score was then tied at 9-9. Gregoria first won the 10th point through a drop shot that Ratchanok could not return perfectly.
However, Ratchanok was able to equalize the score after Gregoria made a mistake. The 11th point finally belonged to Gregoria again.
The fierce battle continued after the interval of the second game. Gregoria was able to lead 13-12 after Ratchanok’s shot went wide. Ratchanok’s strike in front of the net made the score equal to 13-13.
After that, Gregoria managed to pressure Ratchanok and won three points in a row, the score became 16-13.
Gregoria then managed to win the next point and achieved match point at 20-15. Gregoria ended Ratchanok’s resistance with a win in the net duel. Gregoria won 21-15 in the second game to ensure her qualification to the quarterfinals.
