Barcelona president Joan Laporta admits that Antoine Griezmann is a great player. It’s just that he also stated that the French national team player’s game did not match the Blaugrana system.
Griezmann officially became part of Barcelona in 2019 from Atletico Madrid which is expected to be a goalscoring machine. Unfortunately the 30-year-old failed to be productive with the Catalan Team.
Griezmann has also scored 35 goals in 102 games for Barcelona. But almost all parties hope Griezmann can get more results than that as he did with Atletico Madrid. Griezman was again sold to Atletico.
In line with this, Laporta also thinks so. The 59-year-old said that Griezmann had good abilities, but it was not in line with the system owned by Barcelona.
“I think everyone expects more from him. Because he gives everything and does not have a questionable attitude,” said Laporta, quoted by the Daily Mail, Wednesday (8/9/2021).
“We know what kind of player he is and he’s a great player. I don’t think he fits into our system, but I think he shows a very good attitude. I sent a message wishing him well, because he always has the right attitude.”
Even Laporta said bluntly that Griezmann was not the player Barcelona needed. He said that Griezmann was in a difficult situation and could not develop at the Camp Nou.
“In football terms he is not the player we need. He scored goals, I think the ones he scored in the Copa del Rey last year which we won were very important, but it’s true that he could have given a lot more. But he is in a difficult situation.”
