Guardiola: “If We have to Play, We Will Play”

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced England will enter e second national lockdown in the coming days. The decision came hours after the UK passed the grim milestone of one million Covid-19 cases.

The strict lockdown will see the closure of restaurants, schools, playground, hair salons, gyms, including sports events. However, people will only able to leave their homes for specific reasons.

Speaking to media, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola believed the England Premier League will not be halted despite a second national lockdown being forced by the British government.

“It’s difficult. I know the prime minister is taking the decision because the situation is getting worse. It happened in Spain, Germany and France. Everywhere.” Guardiola said.

“So the virus is still there. Maybe people say it is stronger. I think the world of football cannot be an exception in what is happening is society.

“So if we have to play, we will play. But we don’t want to be different from the rest of society when they have to close restaurants or close whatever.” Guardiola added.

There have now been more than 1 million confirmed Covid-19 cases in UK, with 21,915 new cases reported on Saturday.

“It’s a position in which I am not involved. I want to be safe. I want to keep well for myself, for my family, my friends, for all England, all of the UK. But honestly I don’t know.” Guardiola said.

“It’s not a joke. It’s serious. If he says stay at home, you have to stay at home. If he says don’t do this, we don’t do it. So we have to be conscious, the reality is tough, it’s difficult.” Guardiola added.

City got back to winning ways with a slender 1-0 victory over Sheffield United at Brammall Lane on Saturday.
