Lewis Hamilton, currently defending world title, does not like “empty” stage to perform.
Formula 1, which has been severely hit by Covid-19, is putting efforts to revive the season. The authorities are working for season resumption without fans and behind close doors.
After French Grand Prix cancellation, the revival of season is expected to start from Austria in July. Silverstone will follow with a double header weekend.
F1 have engaged authorities for a possible execution of races on the venues. However, it remains unclear whether all teams would be able fly-in their members on the venues or not.
Hamilton Unimpressed
Regardless of the need for the season, Hamilton seems unimpressed by empty chairs.
He expressed: “It gave me a really empty feeling.
“The fans really make the race, and around the world, the more fans, the more atmosphere you have, like at Silverstone and Monza, so it is going to be very empty.”
Despite his position on ghost races, he admitted to the need for resumption of the season.
“I am getting messages from people around the world who are struggling through this period because they are not getting to watch sport,” he said.
“It shows how significant sport is in people’s lives, it brings us together it is so exciting and captivating. I don’t know how exciting it will be for people watching on tv, but it will be better than nothing.”
This is the prolonged gap that any driver have enjoyed as an official break. Similar is the case with British driver, he has never been on such a long break since 2007.
“It’s almost a blessing on one side because it gives you more of an appreciation of the things that you love,” he said.
“This has given me more energy and determination to keep delivering, keep working for this great team and I am excited for the future.”
Government of UK is expected to announce further regulations on Covid-19. They are expected to allow entry with a proposed 15 days necessary quarantine.
F1 future hangs in the balance while different governments announce regulations according to the need. And it is difficult for team to adopt regularly with changing needs.
