Barcelona manager has shared his view on Ansu Fati. Even though Ansu gets the talent and the potential as a player, Flick does not think this forward as a key player in his current lineup’s tactical setup.
During the start of the summer, fans anticipated that Ansu would get to have a ‘coming back’ season since he performed very well before the start of the official training sessions.
Nonetheless his growth was cut short by an injury which prevented him from joining Barcelona’s tour of America.
“In my opinion it cannot be doubted that Ansu is truly talented player. His abilities are pretty diverse and he has demonstrated moments of sheer class,” Flick said.
“However, when I say that aforementioned individual is not a significant talent, I assess him within reference to systemic relations within the team and specific tactical positions that are valued at the moment.” Flick added.
Ansu only featured for two minutes plus added time versus Monaco and he has not played the matches against Villarreal, Getafe and Osasuna.
Ansu Fati was not available to assist Barcelona when the club was losing 2-0 to Osasuna in a match they later won 4-2.
At the start of the second half, Flick brought in Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, while Hector Fort was a last man substitute before Ansu was ready to come into the field.
Recent statements by Flick make it appear that he still sees Fati as a project which is still in the advancement level and not part of his major long-term strategy.
For all the potential indicated during pre-seasons and during training sessions, Ansu still cannot get proper playing time to shine. Whether that will continue in the coming weeks, only time will tell.
“Why does he prefer to play the left-winger? I agree that since I know he has the possible ways of excelling there, but I think he is capable of functioning as a central too.” Flick said.
“But I also think he needs some time now, and he will get this. As director of the club, we will look after him because it is very important for the player to be in the best shape as possible most of the time.” he added.
