Barcelona have moved a step closer to an automatic place in the round of 16 of this year’s UEFA Champions League after the shock 3-2 win in the Signal Iduna Park against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.
The hosts, however, succumbed to their first domestic defeat this campaign to be pegged at ninth position.
Dortmund was the side with the better chances in the first half despite 70% ball possession by Hansi Flick’s side.
But things shifted after the break with a lot of goals. Barcelona went ahead through Raphinha and then brought on Ferran Torres to score a second, but Serhou Guirassy equalised twice for the home side for Dortmund.
“The first half was wonderful, and in the second half, when Dortmund scored, we remained stable.” Flick said.
“I would talk about the team’s ability to suffer, although that might not be the right word.
“Dortmund played very well, their players have a very high pace and are difficult to defend, but we did well.” Flick added.
Flick also admitted that there were mistakes done that saw Dortmund score goals and believed that his side could develop in future matches.
“The goals came from some mistakes, but we can always improve. However, I have to congratulate the team because they did great.” Flick said.
“The ball possession in the first half was calm, as we wanted. And when we made the changes, they were direct and we scored the second goal. You can see that the team believes in itself.” he added.
When the countdown to the year end shrinks to two matches remaining, FC Barcelona will be in a precarious position in LaLiga.
The event against Leganes as well as Atletico Madrid will define their position in the league and will also determine the outcome of the rest of the season.
