Happy 33rd Birthday Dovizioso!

Happy 33rd Birthday Dovizioso!

Andrea Dovizioso turned 33 this weekend. The occasion to salute his start of season 2019, where he hopes to obtain his second world title, 15 years after that of 2004.

A happy birthday to him this season is more than ever the iron spears of the Reds: Ducati put a lot on him and mobilized everything to support him. So much so that even Danilo Petrucci and Jack Miller acknowledged that they sometimes had to work for him.

Since the beginning of his career, in the early 2000s, Dovizioso has been at the forefront of the scene. He was crowned world champion at 125cc in 2004. Then at 250cc, where he will be twice runner-up in 2006-2007.

Loyal to Honda since 2002, he joins the Japanese manufacturer in MotoGP in 2008: team satellite Scot, then official team Repsol from 2009 to 2011. At Tech3 Yamaha he won 6 podiums for three year. His Ducati career was in 2013 and he is still there today.

Working hard on the physical and the mental, he accompanied the progression of the Desmosedici and began to stack the victories from the end of 2016. Since 2017, he fights for the world title against Honda’s Marc Marquez.

In 2018, errors and falls have penalised the Italian rider. He recovered in the second half of the year, but his rival Marquez, more regular, had already flown to his 9th world title.

In 2019, the duel was in any case launched at the Qatar Grand Prix to the delight of his fans. Dovizioso beat Marquez to win the opening round of the 2019 MotoGP season by just 0.023 seconds in a typically frantic Qatar GP.

However, Dovizioso’s narrow win over Marquez was thrown into doubt when it emerged that Suzuki, Honda, KTM and Aprilia had lodged a protest against Ducati’s newly-introduced rear tyre winglet.

An investigation was launched after the race, but ultimately it was deemed by MotoGP’s technical delegates that the part in question is legal.
