Harry Kane finally played for Tottenham again

Former Wolverhampton Wanderers coach from Portugal, Nuno Espirito Santo led Tottenham Hotspur to two consecutive wins in the Premier League. In that match Harry Kane finally went down to play.

Tottenham followed Chelsea and Liverpool who also picked up their second win to lead the top 4 of the Premier League standings. As reported by Opta on Twitter.com/OptaJoe, Tottenham have opened their league campaign with two 1-0 wins for the second time in their history.

It was like what happened in the 2013-14 season under coach Andre Villas-Boas. This time the victim was Nuno’s former club, Wolves. Dele Alli scored a first-half penalty for Tottenham Hotspur as well as a win at Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton, on Sunday.
The penalty kick came in the ninth minute when midfielder Dele Alli was violently fouled in the area by Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa.

At that time the results of the VAR examination also agreed with the decision of referee Stuart Attwell which was carried out on the field. This goal turned out to be the only one scored in the match as well as a decisive victory for the London squad.

Around 30 thousand spectators were witnessed, most of whom were loyal supporters of the Wolves hosts. Of course this defeat is very disappointing for them.

The match was also marked by the return of the Tottenham striker to the field after Kane made a fitness recovery phase. It was Harry Kane’s return to action for the first time since the Euro 2020 final as a 72nd-minute substitute.

Striker Kane’s future is still undecided with nine days left of this summer’s transfer window. But when he came on as a substitute in the game it showed something obvious.

It seems Kane has to face the current reality and he has professionally accepted the situation that has developed up to now. Does grazing Kane show that he is still in London?

Interesting question. Especially now that Manchester City have again found a sharp touch from their attackers when crushing 5 goals against Norwich City. The question to which we will wait until the end of January when the summer transfer window closes. But what remains clear is that City’s offer has not been cancelled. Now just waiting for Daniel Levy, the owner of Tottenham, to answer.

Back to the game at Molineux, Wolves actually dominated most of the game. They are very excited in front of their supporters. The team nicknamed the Wolves should have received a penalty after Olivier Skipp brought down Nelson Semedo in the Tottenham 12-meter area, but the referee did not give a penalty.

Raul Jimenez, who is making his first home appearance in the Premier League since 23 November 2020 through injury, came close to equalizing. But his kick has not managed to break into the Spurs goal. Neither did Nelsen Semedo’s shot hit the bar, before Jimenez and Adama Traore’s chances were both denied by Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

The French goalkeeper marked his 300th Premier League appearance for Spurs with a clean sheet. From the Tottenham side, Steven Bergwijn and Son Heung-min opened a golden opportunity from their collaboration in the second half to increase their advantage, but failed.

Spurs substitute Harry Kane, making his first appearance of the season, came close to making it 2-0 but his 81st-minute effort was saved by Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa. From statistical data released by Premierleague.com (22/8/21), Wolves controlled the ball more dominantly with 25 shot opportunities but only 6 shots were on target. Compared to what the Spurs achieved, only had 8 shot chances with 6 shots on target.

The picture shows how Wolves are always plagued with very poor finishing to score goals. Meanwhile, the Tottenham team again showed their effective game in managing the ball.

Congratulations to Tottenham for starting this Premier League with two wins in a row. Their third match will host Watford at Tottenhamhotspur Stadium, London next Sunday.
