Indonesian men’s doubles pair, Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, will be accompanied by Hendra Setiawan at the 2025 All England.
Sabar/Reza and Fajar/Rian are two of four Indonesian men’s doubles pairs who will compete at the All England besides Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Daniel Marthin and Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana.
For Sabar/Reza, the 2025 All England is their first experience at the legendary tournament. In addition, the next special thing for Sabar/Reza is the presence of their senior and legend Hendra Setiawan as a coach.
“We really wanted to have a coach after walking alone for the past year. After a discussion with the two of us, we continued the discussion with brother Hendra and it turned out that he wanted to help,” said Sabar.
“We also discussed with the sponsor, they also approved and supported. Well, finally it’s going. Hopefully, with the presence of brother Hendra as a newly retired legend, he can transmit aura and achievements to us and also bring more confidence,” he added.
Hendra also welcomed Sabar/Reza’s invitation and hoped to boost the performance of his juniors.
“When Sabar/Reza asked me to be a coach, I definitely wanted to help. I know how hard it is to be a professional player. Finally we went, there were three weeks before coming here. The preparations were all good. I hope they can do their best in the two European tournaments,” said the maestro.
Hendra admitted that he did not change much about the training pattern of Sabar/Reza who already have years of experience performing in various badminton events.
“Not much has changed. I only asked for a little program but to do it to the maximum. The most important thing is their mindset, now that they are ranked eight, they must be more confident. Don’t be a burden,” said the 2008 Olympic gold winner.
Hendra and his partner, Mohammad Ahsan, officially retired after losing in the round of 16 of the 2025 Indonesia Masters which took place last January. After retiring, Hendra and Ahsan admitted that they wanted to take a break before returning to the world of badminton.
In the first round of the 2025 All England, Sabar/Reza will face Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang who are the third seeds from China, Wednesday (12/3).
