Holger Rune ambition is to win at the Paris Olympics

Holger Rune realized the prospect of fulfilling a childhood dream by competing in the Paris Olympics next season.

The 19-year-old has climbed more than 90 rankings since January 2022 and is currently at his career-high ranking to date, world No. 9. Last season he won three titles with the most prestigious title he won being the first Masters 1000 title of his career, the Paris Masters title, where he beat five top 10 players in a row, including Novak Djokovic at the top of the party.

At the French Open, the Dane made his best achievement at a Grand Slam so far by qualifying for the quarterfinals before losing to Casper Ruud.

Paris is a lucky place for the Danish tennis player who is currently coached by Patrick Mouratoglou and Lars Christensen. She will hope to achieve more success in the fashion city next summer when the city hosts the Olympics. Roland Garros, which is the venue for the French Open, will be the venue for the tennis sport.

“That was a big target for me. I feel really excited about it,” Holger Rune said of the Olympics. “The event will be held next season, 2024 in Paris. I’ve always played impressively in Paris and I’m happy with that. It was a really amazing event. As a child, I also dreamed about it. So, it will soon become a reality.”

The 19-year-old will be aiming for something that compatriot Caroline Wozniacki has not been able to do in her career and won a medal in the once every four years event.

In Olympic history, Denmark has only won one medal in tennis and that was more than 100 years ago, when Sofie Castenschiold won a silver medal in 1912.

The 19-year-old will be the first male from his country to participate in the men’s singles event since Kenneth Carlsen in 1996.

“I think hard-court and clay-court are my best courts. And still have to gain more experience on the grass-court, but I feel my game, the aggressive style that I have will be good for the grass-court and I move well,” said Holger Rune regarding his game.

“I just have to practice more and get used to that court. And I think I can play on grass as well as on hard court and clay court.”

So far in the 2022 season, Rune has gone 5-3 after three tournaments. He qualified for the fourth round of the Australian Open and the semifinals in Montpellier. This week he will participate in Rotterdam and appear as the fourth seed.
