Hubert Hurkacz Reveals Miraculous Recovery After Being Diagnosed With This Condition

Hubert Hurkacz

Hubert Hurkacz has miraculously recovered from an injury that doctors initially said would keep him off the field until the start of the 2025 season.

It was only a few weeks ago that Novak Djokovic made a miraculous return to the tennis court after undergoing knee surgery just weeks earlier. It was unexpected, as the Serbian’s surgeon confirmed that he was doubtful of being ready for Wimbledon.

The 37-year-old Djokovic competed at Wimbledon and even made it to the final (losing to Carlos Alcaraz). Two weeks later, he won the Olympic gold medal in Paris (beating Alcaraz) and that was a great achievement, since he wasn’t even supposed to play at Wimbledon.

Andy Roddick even speculated that Djokovic might miss all tournaments until the US Open, but he returned less than 20 days later.

But the Serbian wasn’t the only one. The Polish player also recently returned to competition in a similar vein, having recently undergone knee surgery after injuring himself at Wimbledon against Frenchman Arthur Fils.

The world number 7 competed at the Canadian Open in Montreal last week and won. He won his opening match despite being told he couldn’t play the Masters 1000 event. He was even told that he would not be able to compete until the 2025 season.

With that confession, the Polish tennis player was asked about the process that allowed him to play the Masters 1000 tournament. He spoke a little about it and what he did to prepare himself so quickly.

“I’ll probably work with my physio. I feel pretty good actually, so I don’t know what to expect. Definitely not too many matches. Spent a lot of time in the gym last week,” Hurkacz replied.

“Yeah, I just feel really grateful to the doctors and of course, my physio, Kuba and my fitness coach, Przemek, because if it wasn’t for those two guys, I would have been in Asia. So, I just feel really relieved that I’m here.”

The first match in Montreal was quite challenging as he played against Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis who played well and won the first set, but the Pole fought back and won the third-set tiebreak.

“First of all, I feel happy that I can compete. Not that slow, so, that’s pretty positive. Obviously, it’s the first match since the surgery, so, it’s still unknown,” Hubert Hurkacz added.

“Tennis is an amazing moment. I just try to enjoy it as much as possible. Those moments make you really appreciate what you do, meeting fans, playing tennis again.”
