Iga Swiatek Becomes Finalist at Indian Wells

Iga Swiatek will play the final of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells for the second time in her career in the 2024 season.

The Polish tennis player played mercilessly when he crushed the 31st seed, Marta Kostyuk, with a landslide result of 6-2, 6-1 in the semifinals of the BNP Paribas Open.

The first seed needed 45 minutes to build a one-set advantage and took the lead with a break opportunity in the second meeting against the Ukrainian tennis player, Kostyuk, who started the semifinal of the first WTA level 1000 tournament in her career by making 15 unforced errors in the first set.

Kostyuk then called a break for medical reasons after losing serve for the fourth time in the third game of the second set, where he appeared to stamp his foot on the surface of the court and although he continued the match, the top seed threw a shot that gave him victory after 69 minutes of play.

2016: The Polish tennis player became the first highest seed to qualify for the final at Indian Wells since Serena Williams in the 2016 season. The last top seed to win the title was Victoria Azarenka in the 2012 season.

0: The top seed did not face a single break point opportunity and dropped just ten points on serve. Meanwhile he converted five of the six break point opportunities he created.

The Polish tennis player only made six unforced errors throughout the match and hit 14 winners, while Kostyuk made 23 unforced errors and produced 17 winners.

19: This victory is Swiatek’s 19th win in the 2024 season and beats American Emma Navarro, who has bagged 18 wins this season.

22: The world number 1 is now 22-7 in WTA tournament semifinals and she will be aiming for her 19th career title in the final of the BNP Paribas Open.

3: In the final, the Polish national is aiming for the third WTA level 1000 tournament title of her career as the first seed after she achieved that achievement in Doha last month and in Rome two seasons ago.
