Iga Swiatek Polish tennis player started the 2024 French Open season with a convincing straight sets win.
The first seed won a landslide victory 6-1, 6-2 over Leolia Jeanjean in the first round of the French Open. Thanks to this victory, she became the first female tennis player to win 15 consecutive wins at the French Open since Justine Henin who won 24 consecutive wins in the period 2005 – 2010.
Throughout the match, the tennis player who has won four Grand Slam titles shot 26 winners and made 18 unforced errors, including breaking Jeanjean five times.

This victory sent the world number 1 tennis player into the second round against the former world number 1 who also has four Grand Slam titles, Naomi Osaka.
“Really impressed,” commented Swiatek about Osaka’s return. “He is an extraordinary person and his style of play is also quite fun to watch. I’m just relieved that he’s back and he played more tournaments even before the break. I actually haven’t played Naomi on clay yet, so we’ll see how the match goes.”
The match between the two players is highly anticipated for different reasons. The Polish tennis player has been the world number 1 since winning the WTA Finals title in November last season in Cancun. A few weeks ago, he also won two Masters 1000 tournament titles in Madrid and Rome in a row, making it 13 wins in a row, an achievement that makes him the favorite to win a third French Open title in a row.
Meanwhile, Japanese tennis player Osaka has only returned to competition five months after giving birth to a daughter whom she named Shai and is ranked 134th in the world. His match results in European clay-court tournaments have also improved. After losing his first match at Rouen, he won two matches in Madrid before winning three matches in Rome.
Osaka beat world No. 1 Iga Swiatek nearly five seasons ago in Toronto, when she was just 18, but the world No. 1 won their last meeting in the Miami Open final two seasons ago.
In other action, the 11th seed, Danielle Rose Collins, also put on a stunning performance when she beat her compatriot, Caroline Dolehide, 6-3, 6-4 and booked a second round match between Serbian tennis player, Olga Danilovic, who defeated Italian player, Martina. Trevisan with 6-1, 6-2.
Fifth seed Marketa Vondrousova also went through the first round of the French Open with a win after she beat Spanish tennis player Rebeka Masarova 6-1, 6-3.
In the second round, Vondrousova will meet American tennis player, Katie Volynets, who defeated Serbian tennis player, Aleksandra Krunic with 7-6, 6-2.
