Iga Swiatek Reveals The Stress When Playing As Rank 1 Tennis Player

Iga Swiatek

Iga Swiatek admitted that at the 2023 French Open he felt the most pressure after he admitted that there was a lot of stress with being the world number 1 tennis player.

Entering the French Open this season, the Polish tennis player is considered the most favored tennis player to win the Grand Slam title. In addition, he returned to Roland Garros, Paris as the reigning champion.

In the end, the 22-year-old tennis player was able to defend the French Open title and win the Grand Slam title for the third time in the last four seasons.

“Competing as world number 1, it’s quite stressful, especially when you face all those questions basically every two days at the press conference,” admits Iga Swiatek.

“Sometimes it’s easier to just play tennis and play your game, but you have to deal with everything else and that’s part of the job.”

Just days before the 2023 season of Roland Garros kicks off, the four-time Grand Slam champion suffered a thigh injury in Rome and pulled out of the quarter-finals.

“It was not easy from the start. I feel more pressure here at Roland Garros than at any other Grand Slam. Especially with injuries and not having enough time to train and prepare. I still have to believe that my game is enough,” added Swiatek.

“I try not to watch the news, but sometimes you have the first match and you think, ‘Is this going to be enough for the rest of the tournament?’. It’s pretty stupid because the tournament is two weeks and you know you’re not even going to be in the same shape for two weeks.”

In the final of the French Open, the champion of the 2022 US Open defeated Czech tennis player Karolina Muchova in three sets. In the third set, he even trailed by breaks on two occasions, but he was able to find a way back to eventually emerge victorious at Roland Garros.

Now, Swiatek will turn his attention to the grass-court season and prepare well for Wimbledon which will start in a month.
