The new Premier League season is just around the corner. Manchester City are aiming for a third successive champions this season under Pep Guardiola.
Many people believe that Liverpool once again to be City’s closest title rivals. Jurgen Klop’s side are enjoying the view from the top of the table after beating Arsenal 3-1 in matchday 2 of Premier League.
City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan believes that City are good for Liverpool in the Premier League title race and the two sides could help push each other on as they did last season.
“I think we should always put ourselves under pressure because we are so talented and such a good team that we want to win every game, so the pressure comes from inside,” Gundogan said.
“The fact that Liverpool does so well recently just shows that there is a team with a lot of quality that will also be a big contender for the season.
“That’s good for the league, maybe also good for us but also good for Liverpool that we are there so it’s going to be a fight. It’s not going to be easy so we have to be there, we have to win and that’s the game.” Gundogan added.
If City went the way they did last season, they would win the league. Guardiola’s side beat Brighton 4-1 ended 2018/19 season on 98 points. Liverpool, meanwhile, ended a point and place behind City.
Gundogan team-mate Fernandinho on the other hand, he believes the desire to win is ingrained in his team this season.
“We must dig deep in the dressing room and not just rely on Pep [Guardiola] to push us.” Fernandinho said.
“We don’t just have a group of great players, we have a great group of human beings and this makes a huge difference.
“I think we all release that in every training session and match we play, we have to improve, play great football and win our games because we want to win many more titles.” he added.
