Indonesia’s hope on having representative in Thailand Open 2019 is gone. Marcus Fernaldi Gideon / Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo failed to advance to the Thailand Open semi-final after being lost to Japanese men’s doubles in the 2019 Thailand Open quarter-finals.
However, the Indonesian men’s doubles pair learned lessons from the defeat of Hiroyuki Endo / Yuta Watanabe in the quarterfinals of the Thailand Open 2019. The world’s number one men’s doubles lost with score 17-21, 21-19, and 14-21 to Endo / Watanabe .
The match took place at the Huamark Indoor Stadium, Bangkok, Thailand, Friday (2/8/2019). This defeat makes Marcus / Kevin failed to avenge their defeat at the final of the Asian Championship 2019 last April. In that game, Marcus / Kevin lost two games directly 21-18, 21-3.
After the match, Marcus / Kevin claimed the Japanese men’s doubles played better. “The opponent is very good playing, not easy to die. In the third game, we are really exhausted, so the attacks are not pressing and others are still lacking too much,” Kevin said, as quoted from the Indonesian Badminton page.
“Definitely tired, we continue to play hard. However, this can not be used as an excuse too because everyday we have to do training also. Indeed, opponents play well,” said Marcus. Nevertheless, Kevin admitted that the loss could give valuable lessons. “It’s okay, as long as we know where the mistake is and learn again in the future,” Kevin said. In three tournaments throughout 2019, Marcus / Kevin won two of them.
The men’s double pair, nicknamed The Minions, won the Indonesia Open Super 1000 and Japan Open Super 750. “We are satisfied that in three tournaments, we get two titles, that’s more than enough for us. We better focus on the world championship,” said Kevin.
Indonesia certainly does not have a representative in the semifinals after Greysia Polii / Apriyani Rahayu (women’s doubles), Fitriani (women’s singles), and Shesar Hiren Rhustavito defeated by their respective opponents.
Earlier, 7 representatives from Indonesia have lost. They are:
– Tommy Sugiarto (man single)
– Lyanny Alessandra Mainaky (woman single)
– Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto (men’s double)
– Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari (mixed double)
– Alfian Eko Prasetya/Marsheilla Gischa Islami (mixed double)
– Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva Oktavianti (mixed double)
– Hafiz Faizal/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja (mixed double)
