Indonesian National Team Coach Shin Tae Yong tries to aim for victory against Iraq in the continuation of the 2026 World Cup Qualification at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Main Stadium, Senayan, Thursday (6/6).
The duel against Iraq is one of the crucial matches for Indonesia in the two remaining matches in Group F in the 2026 World Cup Qualification.
Indonesia now only needs one win to qualify for the third qualifying round and also win a ticket to the 2027 Asian Cup.
The coach from South Korea does not want to waste the time and energy of the Garuda Squad by directly targeting victory against Iraq, which has a better FIFA ranking than Indonesia.
“Iraq is a good team and is definitely stronger than Indonesia, but now is the time for us to try to win,” said Shin Tae Yong in a press conference, Wednesday (5/6).
In order to get full points, Shin Tae Yong hopes that Jordi Amat and his friends can play with confidence. Moreover, the Red and White Team played at home in front of tens of thousands of loyal supporters.
“So the important thing is that the players can play with confidence, maybe it can bring good results,” said Shin Tae Yong.
Indonesian captain Jordi Amat also made similar comments. This Spanish-born player respects Iraq, but he still hopes that Indonesia will win.
“Firstly, I am very happy to be here, I feel proud to wear the national team jersey, tomorrow we will face an important match against Iraq. As the coach said, Iraq is a good team, but we still played well in the previous match,” said Jordi.
“We really appreciate Iraq, and so do they. Iraq also has good strength up front, but we still have to take the opportunity. Moreover, we will play at home tomorrow, there is support from supporters, so we will try to give our best during the match to win ,” said Jordi added.
Regarding the Indonesia vs Iraq duel, Iraq National Team Coach Jesus Casas already has a plan to suppress the Garuda Team’s game and achieve victory at the GBK Main Stadium.
