Indonesia Still Dominates EWC 2024

After almost two months of being held, the Esports World Cup (EWC) event finally ended on August 24, 2024. Although the Indonesian representative teams competing in the Mid Season Cup (MSC) or the MLBB Women’s Invitational failed, Indonesia is still the region that dominates the viewership of the Esports World Cup held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, starting from contributions to the channel category and also language.

If we dissect the viewership of the EWC x MLBB Mid Season Cup 2024, the peak viewers were at 2,382,990 which occurred in the grand final between the Falcon Bren vs Selangor Red Giants teams with a total of 29,142,707 watched hours, and total views reaching 84,804,794 according to Esports charts.

In terms of language, Indonesia is ranked first with 10,759,231 watched hours followed by Bahasa Malaysia and Tagalog respectively. In terms of channels, YouTube MPL Indonesia is ranked first by contributing 3,278,554 watched hours and total views reaching 13,716,905.

Meanwhile, for the EWC x MLBB Women’s Invitational 2024, the peak viewers were at 265,117 which was achieved in the grand final between the Omega Empress vs Team Vitality teams with a total of 2,546,393 watched hours, and total views reaching 11,062,587.

Indonesia is still the main contributor to this viewership achievement. In terms of language, Indonesia is ranked first with 1,168,331 watched hours followed by English and Bahasa Malaysia respectively. In terms of channels or platforms for watching, MPL Indonesia is in the top two, contributing 384,164 watched hours (YouTube) and 322,281 watched hours on the TikTok platform.

Speaking of achievements at EWC, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) became the “Esports Mobile Game of the Year” at the Esports Awards 2024. This is the second year in a row that the globally recognized Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game has won this category. MLBB is also a finalist for the “Esports Game of the Year” category.
