Indonesian U-19 National Team, The New King in ASEAN After Winning AFF Cup

The Indonesian U-19 National Team successfully won the 2024 AFF U-19 Cup after defeating Thailand 1-0 in the final match at the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (GBT), Surabaya, Monday (29/7/2024). Indonesia’s only winning goal was scored by Jens Raven.

Indonesia immediately appeared to press from the start. Meanwhile, Thailand was only able to develop their game starting in the seventh minute.

In the 15th minute, it was Thailand’s turn to threaten Indonesia’s goal through Thanawut Phochai’s hard shot. However, Thanawut’s shot still hit the left post of Indonesia’s goal.

In the 17th minute, Indonesia retaliated. However, Arlyansyah Abdulmanan’s cut back pass to Muhammad Kafiatur was still cut off by the Thai defender and resulted in a corner kick.

It was through this corner kick that Indonesia managed to break into Thailand’s goal through Jens Raven’s tap-in in the 18th minute, after continuing Kadek Arel’s header after heading Muhammad Kafiatur’s corner kick.

Until the first half ended, no additional goals were scored. Indonesia was ahead 1-0 over Thailand in the first half.

At the beginning of the second half, Indonesia also immediately displayed an attacking game. However, when approaching Thailand’s penalty box, Indonesian players still often made mistakes, thus wasting opportunities.

Meanwhile, Thailand tried to appear calm and slow in building attacks. However, there was no significant threat from Thailand at the beginning of the second half.

However, from the 60th minute to the 70th minute, Thailand was able to control the game, while Indonesia attacked more through counterattacks.

In the 90+2 minute, the referee made a controversial decision after Thai player Jhetsaphat Kuanantanom slammed the ball after being declared a violation against Arlyansyah, but did not get a yellow card.

Until the match ended, no additional goals were scored. Indonesia won 1-0 over Thailand and emerged as the champion of the 2024 AFF U-19 Cup.

This achievement is the second title won by Indonesia in the AFF U-19 Cup after in the 2013 edition, Indra Sjafri also brought the Indonesian U-19 National Team to become champions.
