Arsenal player, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, prefers to retire than join Tottenham Hotspur. In fact, the player from Gabon almost joined Tottenham a few years ago.
Arsenal brought Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018. In his first year at the Gunners, Aubameyang impressed by scoring 31 goals in 51 appearances.
Aubameyang is 32 years old so his Arsenal career will soon be over. However, when asked about the opportunity to defend Arsenal’s city rivals, Tottenham, he gave an answer like the majority of other Arsenal players.
“You don’t need to ask questions, you already know the answer. I will retire,” Aubameyang said, quoted by Football London, Saturday (11/13/2021).
In fact, before joining Arsenal, Aubameyang almost represented Tottenham. An agreement between the two parties never occurred. As a result of this, Aubameyang is motivated to score against Tottenham in every game.
“In fact, more because I don’t know if you know, but a few years ago I almost signed for Tottenham and in the end I don’t know what they did. So, I will definitely retire,” he said.
“I was at St-Etienne I think (when I almost signed), I wasn’t sure, or at the start of Dortmund. I don’t remember exactly,” he added.
“I came here (to north London), I went to the stadium and also to White Hart Lane. The day after they never gave an answer they never called back, so I was like ‘Ok, don’t worry.’ So that’s why every time I play against them they know (why I’m motivated to play).”
