Inter Milan have completed the transfer of Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean striker will initially spend a season long loan from Premier League giants Manchester United.
Speaking to media, Inter’s vice-president Javier Zanetti believed former Barcelona star Sanchez will become a key player for the Nerazzurri this season.
“I’m happy about his arrival because I believe he’s an important player who makes a difference to his teams,” Zanetti said.
“Alexis brings qualities which Inter didn’t have up front and will complete our attacking options with Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku. Negotiations with United were difficult but this is part of the transfer window. I hope he has a great season.” Zanetti added.
Sanchez joined United in January 2018 from Arsenal, but he has never come close to rediscovering the form which earned him a deserved reputation as one of the Premier League’s most prolific forwards during his time in north London.
Inter’s manager Antonio Conte, who tried to sign Sanchez from Arsenal when he was managing Chelsea, is hoping the star to be involved in Sunday’s Serie A match away to Cagliari.
When asked about Barcelona star Arturo Vidal, Zanetti refused to deny the rumors and he revealed why Inter had enjoyed so much success with Chilean players throughout their history.
“There isn’t much time left in this summer’s window, these are questions for our transfer officials. I can assure you we’re happy with what we’ve done so far, but when our directors get the scent of a deal they rarely let it slip through their fingers.” Zanetti said.
“They’ve all made their mark here. Chileans are very passionate and have great self-confidence. They’re characterised by their South American ‘garra’ and that always emerges in moments of difficulty.” Zanetti added.
Inter have signed former Sanchez team-mate Romelu Lukaku. The Belgium international joined the Serie A club earlier this summer having fallen out with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and has already made an instant impact at the league.
