The British World heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has drafted in some name to prepare for Deontay Wilder. The Gypsy King is currently staged to defend his WBC belt against Wilder in a trilogy match in December.
Speaking to media, Apti Davtaev’s promoter, Dmitriy Salita, said there is a possibility that his client will join Fury’s camp in couple months.
“Potentially yes. While Apti is more filled out than Wilder, they are about the same height. That would be a great experience for Apti.” Salita said.
“He is the best heavyweight coming out of Russia. His time off the radar, training at the Kronk Gym with Sugarhill over the last several years paid off. He is now ready to explode onto the heavyweight scene.” Salita added.
Davtaev made his professional debut on 30 March 2013, scoring a second-round stoppage victory via corner retirement against Ivan Bogdanov. The 31-year-old claimed total 21 wins and a draw.
“I wanted them to spar but the timing wasn’t right. Apti was fighting in Russia, and Tyson in Las Vegas, one day apart, so it didn’t make sense to travel.” Salita said.
“Davtaev had a good performance in his last fight, keeping the things that I taught him. He was excited to box with Tyson. He wants to learn from the best. It would be a great combination because Tyson loves to teach. During his last camp, we spent time teaching the sparring partners, not just teaching Tyson.” Salita added.
Fury has expressed opinion over his Brit contemporary, Anthony Joshua. While both Fury and Joshua currently boast the respective world heavyweight titles in boxing.
“Stop running away, stop making excuses. Put your nuts in your handbag and let’s make the AJ fight!” Fury said.
“All going well, god willing, we get on the big fight with me and Joshua, the all-British showdown and I can give the fans what they want to see, especially the British fans.” Fury added.
