Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant has been accused of punching and pointing a gun to a teenager and threatening a security guard in police reports.
The confusion happened at a basketball game at the home of the Memphis Grizzlies player. The first information revealed that only punches were thrown. However, according to the American newspaper, the owner allegedly attacked the teenager 12 or 13 times.
Morant would have appeared with a gun inside his pants, with his hand next to it after the fight.
The controversy involving the NBA star became public in early January. At the time, the TMZ Sports portal revealed that the owner was being sued.
Morant then told police that he attacked first but acted in self-defence. According to him, the teenager threw a basketball at his head.
But, the shipowner also claimed that he would have been threatened after the confusion. However, the local police did not pursue the case due to lack of evidence.
“I’m going to come back here and set this place on fire as if it were fireworks,” the athlete said while denouncing the young man at the police station.
Just days before the alleged attack, the head of security at a Memphis mall reported Morant for threatening him. The new controversy would have happened in the parking lot of the place. A person who was with the player, then, would have pushed the official.
Morant was involved in another controversy a month ago. Indiana Pacers members accused the Memphis star of pulling a gun.
According to them, Morant was in a car and a red laser was pointed at the team bus. The suspicion caused turmoil and panic in the Indiana delegation.
NBA spokesman Mike Bass said the league’s investigation confirmed that a post-game situation arose that was confrontational. However, it cannot corroborate that any individual threatened others with a weapon.
