Jack Hermansson continued his ascent in the middleweights following a unanimous decision win over Jacare Souza on Saturday in the UFC Fight Night 150 main event in Florida.
Hermansson was able to win in the first rounds particularly, forcing his rival to work the back lying against the octagon. After a third-round end to Souza’s advantage, the Swede came back strong in the fourth bout. He was awarded a unanimous decision victory by the judges sat cageside with 49-46, 48-47, 48-47 scores awarded in his favour.
“I’m very happy to be here and really show every single room in the world watching over me.” Hermansson said.
“I am obsessed with that title. That’s what I want in this sport. I stepped in on short-notice against one of the toughest guys in the world and I think I need a reward after that.”
Souza defeated Chris Weidman by KO at his last fight, November 3rd. He was originally supposed to fight Yoel Romero, but he had to retire for health reasons.
This is how Hermansson was called to the rescue, he who came out of the octagon less than a month ago. On March 30, a victory against David Branch by submission had allowed him to join the top-10 in the category.
The 30-year-old left Sweden to go train in Oslo when he was a youngster. He took a job as a gym teacher even though he could hardly speak Norwegian.

Former NFL player Greg Hardy on the other hand, this time he did the right thing and following the rules, as he ended his fight with Dmitrii Smoliakov in the first round.
Hardy steadily hit his rival on the chin with his right and he dropped to the ground where he suffered a shower of blows from his opponent. The official had no choice but to put an end to this one-sided fight after 2 minutes and 15 seconds.
After dropping his official UFC debut this past January by getting himself disqualified for an illegal knee to a downed Allen Crowder, Hardy is now 1-1 within the promotion.
