Former WBO middleweight champion Jaime Munguia (40-0, 32 KOs) has insisted his plans to fight Gennady Golovkin or Jermal Charlo in 2023.
Gennady last fight took place on September 17, 2022 against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. The Kazakh by unanimous decision.
While Charlo has amassed a perfect pro boxing record of 31-0. He’s scored 22 knockout wins along the way. There is no word on who his next opponent will be at this time.
“Right, still interested in fighting Golovkin. In the last match he had against Canelo, GGG made it clear that he’s still a great fighter, that he’s still strong and that he’s still valuable,” Jaime said.
“The truth is that I couldn’t tell you who I would like to face if his first fight is not a world title fight starting in 2023 but the fighters I would like to face are Golovkin or [Jermall] Charlo at 160 pounds.” Munguia added.
Munguia’s last fight took place on June 11, 2022 against Jimmy ‘Kilrain’ Kelly. He won by technical knockout (TKO) in fifth rounds.
His next fight will be held on November 19, 2022 against Gonzalo Coria at Arena Astros in Guadalajara, Mexico.
“Coria is a lot of risk and little to gain. Obviously I’m not belittling this fighter and I’m never going to belittle anyone, I always prepare in the best way,” Munguia said.
“The truth is that this [second fight in Mexico] was not foreseen. We had planned to fight John Ryder, who had just beaten [Daniel] Jacobs, in what I think was a great fight, but for one reason or another it didn’t happen.”
“We’re going to try to make the best of this fight, keep learning, keep working for when the expected fight comes.” he added.
