Petronas Yamaha SRT has confirmed Jake Dixon to start in the premier class during the Aragon Grand Prix this weekend. The Briton will replace Franco Morbidelli for the second consecutive Grands Prix.
“The current dynamic status of the team offers our riders and new talent some exciting opportunities.” Petronas Yamaha SRT Razlan Razali said.
“We were pleased with Jake’s [Dixon] MotoGP debut at the British Grand Prix and would therefore like to give him another chance to continue learning in the MotoGP class in Aragon.” Razali added.
Due to Dixon’s second MotoGP appearance, Petronas Sprinta Racing decided to promote rider John McPhee to the Moto2 class once.
The Brit, who will almost certainly make the switch to the Moto2 class next season and will compete in the German Liqui Moly Intact GP in 2022.
McPhee’s place within Petronas Sprinta Racing will in turn be taken in Aragon by Malaysian talent Syarifuddin Azman. This gives the Moto3 Junior World Championship rider and race winner the opportunity to make his debut as a rider in the Moto3 class of the MotoGP World Championship.
“Of course, this leaves a place in our Moto2 squad, a place we’d like to give to John, who will make his Moto2 debut with this.” Razali said.
“Then this provides us with a perfect platform to lend his seat in turn to Syarifuddin Azman. won a race in the FIM CEV in Barcelona and I think it’s a great opportunity for him to gain experience and discover his level in the Moto3 World Championship.” he added.
According to MotoGP calender Aragon GP at the Motorland Aragon Circuit will be held in the weekend of September 10-12.
