Leicester midfielder James Maddison has been acquired by Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday for a reported £40 million plus add-ons. The 26-year-old international from England committed to a five-year contract. Having started his career at Coventry City, Maddison later moved on to join Norwich City in January 2016.
In five seasons, he played in 203 matches, scored 55 goals, and contributed to Leicester’s FA Cup victory after moving there in 2018. As Leicester was demoted from the Premier League previous season, he scored 10 goals. He has three caps for England.
The 26-year-old has three England caps and helped the Foxes win the FA Cup in 2021 for the first time ever. For almost £20 million, he moved from Norwich to Leicester in 2018. Last season, Maddison led the Premier League with 10 goals, but he was unable to keep his team from being relegated.
Maddison, who was born in Coventry, helped the Foxes to 55 goals and 41 assists, and his ingenuity would be a welcome addition to a Spurs team that has been without a premier playmaker since Christian Eriksen left in 2020.
Maddison is not the only new bullet in Tottenham’s “Arsenal”, as the team recently acquired Italian keeper Guglielmo Vicario from Serie A team Empoli, and after the hiring of new manager Ange Postecoglou, they also made Sweden midfielder Dejan Kulusevski’s loan move from Juventus permanent.
He is the third player the team has added this summer. Dejan Kulusevski, a winger, made his loan from Juventus a permanent move, and Guglielmo Vicario, a keeper, came over from Empoli of another Italian team.
Harry Kane, the top striker for Tottenham who is entering the final year of his contract, is the subject of ongoing speculation. According to German newspaper Bild, Bayern Munich and the England captain have reached a personal agreement; however, Tottenham turned down a first offer of 70 million euros.
On the other side, Harry Winks is set to join Leicester in a separate £10 million. All the clubs are now on their feet in signing in new and promising stars to their sides for the upcoming football season. It’ll be interesting to see what all transfers are yet to happen!
