Jean Pascal Looking to Make a Serious Come Back

WBA world light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal has planned to return to the ring in 2020. However, he admitted that there are currently no potential opponents for the next fight due to the coronavirus.

Pascal edged Badou Jack by split decision in late 2019 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Judge Judy Lederman scored it 114-112 for Jack, while Nelson Vasquez had it 114-112 for Pascal. Judge Barry Lindenam’s card of 114-112 landed in favor of Pascal to preserve his secondary light heavyweight title reign.

Now, Pascal and Jack headed toward a rematch after both parties agreed to terms. However, the fight could take place on three possible dates, according to reports.

“I don’t have an opponent yet, where and when, but I believe it will be against Badou Jack. I would be happy to find him again because the first fight had been very exciting. Jack was back in the fight, it was a closer fight than the one against Browne, which I had stopped before the limit.” Pascal said.

“Maybe they’re going to place me at the end of the year or maybe even they’ll wait for the 2021 budgets. That would be boring and I was so on a roll.

“The momentum is broken. But I try to keep myself in shape. I train at home and go to the Claude-Robillard sports complex 3 times a week. The important thing is to stay ready for when the call comes.” Pascal added.

Pascal has resurrected his career after flirting with retirement. Aside from a one-sided loss by decision to titleholder Dmitry Bivol, the 37-year-old Quebec has looked sharp. He is 4-1 in his last five fights.

“This morning I woke up with a simper. It was worth believing in myself, I didn’t let people’s opinions become my reality. I worked hard, I was disciplined. The key to all of this is persistence and self-confidence.” Pascal said.

“It took me 10 years to become champion again. Yes I had my ups and downs in that period, but I always believed that I had what it takes and what it takes to become a champion again. Then with my trainer Stephan Larouche, we listened to each other. That’s the strength of our team.” Pascal added.
