Gennady Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs) and Canelo Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) had expressed their wish for a rematch after their superb fight in 12 rounds on September 16, in T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas.
Of three ringside judges, 115-113 for Golovkin, and 114-114 for both and only Adalaide Byrd scored the fight in favour of Canelo, with her decision to heavily favour the 27-year-old boxer landing her a suspension from high-level matches.
The Mexican is desperate to get back in the ring with the Kazakh boxer and he demand a rematch with the fierce Golovkin to be his very next fight, following their controversial draw.
“I want it to be my first fight of 2018. I don’t want another fight that is not the tiebreaker with Golovkin, and that’s what we’re going to try to do.” Alvarez said.
“I feel that I was the winner, but that’s boxing. I told everyone that it would be a great fight, I feel very happy with what I did.
“It’s true he has power. However, this is not the monster that everyone has described in recent years. I wanted to finish the job, but it’s a complicated opponent and very physically strong.” Alvarez added.
According to Golovkin’s coach Abel Sanchez, this fight should in principle be held in 2018. He believed that people want another fight between the two great boxers and he will put it together.
“I think Golovkin’s next fight will be against Canelo.” Sanchez said. “There is no bigger fight possible for one as for the other in the near future. Our team will have the opportunity to sit down together, to choose the best path for Gennady.”
“Defending on how the negotiations with Tom Loeffler and Golden Boy Promotions are going to take place, we can then find out what will happen in 2018.” Sanchez added.

However, Jermall Charlo (26-0-0, 20 KOs0 that could also be in the match is the mandatory challenger to the fight Golovkin. But Sanchez said that just as when Glovkin had to wait for his turn, it would be the same for Charlo.
Jermall Charlo is predicted a good challenger for GGG. He has recently made the jump in the middleweight and his last fight and he passed the knockout to John Sebastian Heiland.
