Johann Zarco keen to make a mark in Silverstone

Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Johann Zarco is looking forward to the upcoming British Grand Prix. Changing his strategy from his hard-charging of the past to become a more a mature rider this season, the Frenchman rider nonetheless say that he doesn’t mean that he’s not prepared to try and win at Silverstone Circuit this weekend.

“The Silverstone circuit is a really different track from Austria. The asphalt is new, so we will find less dip compared to last year. Last weekend, everyone could see I was struggling with my machine, but I still trust the work we do with my team” Zarco said to reporters.

“In any case, I will try to do my best as usual and my wish is to have a good feeling right away. This track is quite fast and I like it, it would be fantastic to be able to get back on the podium and I will do everything for that.” Zarco added.

Zarco has long been a target of KTM, and is understood to have agreed a two-year deal to join the team during couple month’s Austin Race.

The 28-year-old will line up alongside Pol Espargaro, whose contract extension with KTM was announced in last May.

This weekend, Zarco said the mentality for Silverstone is simple though to try and win from FP1 but still need to take some risks.

“There are still many races left, and while I’ve tried to manage some races, you still need to take some risks. Unfortunately to finish every race is difficult. 104 points are a good advantage, but you can lose it really quickly. For example, in Austria, I had a small possibility to win, and I had to try and take it.” Zarco said.

“The mentality for Silverstone is simple though to try and win from Thursday and to see how things are after warm-up on Sunday.

“We know that there are three big accelerations here, but they’re in a different way. In Austria, the accelerations started from second gear, but at Silverstone they start in third year when you already have more speed in the middle of the corner.” Zarco added.

Zarco is currently sitting in seventh place in MotoGP stadings with 104 points, one point behind Pramac rider Danilo Petrruci and one point ahead of Honda rider Cal Crutchlow.
