John Peers and Sam Stosur ensured Australia finished the United Cup victorious when they beat Jessica Bouzas Maneiro and David Vega Hernandez 6-2, 6-3 to earn Australia a 3-2 win over Spain in Group D.
John Peers and Sam Stosur appeared to be dominant throughout the match which lasted 58 minutes, won 97 percent of the points from their first serve, and faced no break point opportunities in the match which took place at the Ken Rosewall Arena, Sydney.
With England having confirmed as Group D winners, neither Australia nor Spain have progressed from the United Cup group stage.
Previously, Bouzas Maneiro replaced his compatriot, Paula Badosa who was injured and brought victory to Spain. The world number 193 tennis player who debuted in the WTA tournament defeated the host tennis player, Olivia Gadecki with a convincing result 6-2, 6-2.

The number 1 Spanish tennis player, Badosa, was unable to participate in the match due to a shoulder injury, giving Bouzas Maneiro a golden opportunity to claim his first win in the WTA tournament.
The 202nd-ranked Gadecki was also called up at the last minute to replace the injured Zoe Hives.
The match brought together two inexperienced tennis players. Bouzas Maneiro’s closest step to appearing in the WTA tournament was three failures in the qualifying round, namely twice in Madrid and once in Tenerife.
On the other hand, despite having only played six matches in the WTA tournament, Gadecki has bagged five wins, including defeating world number 4 Sofia Kenin at the Phillip Island Trophy in the 2021 season.
However, Bouzas Maneiro handled the situation like a veteran. He won 70 percent of the points from his first series while saving two of the three break point opportunities he faced.
The home tennis player, Jason Kubler then ensured that the mixed doubles match in Group D United Cup was held after he beat Albert Ramos Vinolas 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Backed by the home crowd, he put on an impressive game, sprinting after every shot to seal victory after 2 hours and 10 minutes.
The 29-year-old Kubler, who fired 10 aces and broke four times, is now 2-0 in 2023 after he also beat Briton Dan Evans.
