Joining Atletico Madrid, Julian Alvarez Breaks Manchester City’s Most Expensive Sale Record

Manchester City finally agreed to release Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid. Alvarez’s move will break the record for The Citizens’ most expensive sale.

Julian Alvarez finally completed his move from Manchester City to Atletico Madrid. Alvarez’s transfer saga was full of drama, no one expected him to insist on leaving Man City.

Alvarez’s transfer gossip has been around for quite some time, around the last month. Initially, it was said that he wanted to get more playing time than the last two seasons.

Last season, Julian Alvarez was already a key part of Pep Guardiola’s squad. In his two years at the Etihad Stadium, Julian Alvarez made a significant contribution as a back-up to Erling Haaland as Man City won the treble.

Julian Alvarez also impressed when Erling Haaland and Kevin de Bruyne were injured, ending the season with more playing time than any other player in the Man City squad.

In addition to his performances at club level, Julian Alvarez has also been a huge success on the international stage. At 24, he has already won the World Cup and Copa America with Argentina, adding to his impressive list of achievements.

Alvarez joined Manchester City from River Plate in January 2022. The Argentine striker is contracted until 2028.

At the age of just 24, Alvarez has won many titles with The Citizens. That includes the treble winners in 2023.

Even so, Alvarez is only the number two striker after Erling Haaland. That situation, reportedly, made Alvarez want to leave and get more playing time.

Manchester City finally agreed to release Alvarez to Atletico Madrid. Reported by Fabrizio Romano, Atletico is ready to pay a lot to get Alvarez.

Atletico agreed to a transfer fee totaling 95 million euros. The details are, 75 million euros in cash and 20 million euros in bonuses (add-ons).

Alvarez will sign a five-year contract at Atletico. He is projected to be the team’s main striker to replace Alvaro Morata who moved to AC Milan.

Manchester City’s previous most expensive sale record was held by Raheem Sterling. The English winger was bought by Chelsea for 56.2 million Euros in the summer of 2022.

Manchester City also benefited greatly from the sale of Alvarez to Atletico Madrid.

The Citizens bought Alvarez from River Plate for only 21.4 million euros.

Alvarez will sign a five-year contract at Atletico. He is projected to be the team’s main striker for the long term.

Atletico Madrid’s movement in the summer transfer market is indeed interesting, quite aggressive. In fact, Julian Alvarez is not the only EPL player who will join Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has also completed his transfer to Los Rojiblancos.
