Jack Grealish officially joined Manchester City from Aston Villa in the 2021 summer transfer market. Even though he had just joined, Grealish immediately targeted a position on the front lines of Man City in the 2021-2022 season.
The creative midfielder was bought by Man City from Aston Villa for 100 million pounds (equivalent to Rp. 1.9 trillion). He got a six year contract. The transfer also made Grealish the most expensive footballer in Premier League history.
However, he must be prepared to face tough competition on the front lines of Man City. Because, the coach, Josep Guardiola, has many options in this sector. Guardiola relied on Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling, and also Bernardo Silva last season.
While at Aston Villa, Grealish played more often on the left wing and was irreplaceable last season. The 25-year-old also stole the show with six goals and 12 assists in 26 games for Aston Villa in all competitions.
The left wing attacking sector was usually occupied by Sterling last season. Sterling is also Grealish’s main competitor in the England National Team in the 2020 European Cup. However, he has always been the second choice of England coach Gareth Southgate.
However, Gralish is also used to playing in various positions on the front lines even though he is more often played as a left wing. He can roam the field to the middle, sometimes even being an attacking midfielder behind the attackers.
Even so, the 25-year-old says he is ready to fight for his place next season. Despite the many talented players at Man City, he is ready to convince Guardiola.
“There’s so much talent here and I can’t wait to get in and in between and talk to these guys,” Grealish said.
“I still think I’m young, I’m only 25, so I can still learn from all these people. I can’t wait to do that, to play and train with them and just be in and around them. You can learn from him. these guys and I can’t wait to get started and start playing.”
“That’s what you need. It’s something I’ve developed and I think everyone should stay alert for the competition for places,” Grealish said.
Judging by Grealish’s transfer fee, he should have started as a starting player. It would be surprising if a player worth 100 million pounds is sitting on the bench.
