The Columbus Blue Jackets, who secured the doorman on Wednesday, traded Jonathan Quick to the Vegas Golden Knights.
Quick expressed his displeasure as soon as the Los Angeles Kings traded him to the Blue Jakets.
Details about the Jackets and Knights’ trade talks for Quick emerged in the hours that followed.
The Kings on Tuesday cut ties with their longtime goaltender to acquire defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov and goaltender Joonas Korpisalo. They sent Quick along with first and third round picks to Columbus.
Quick played his 743 games on the Bettman circuit in a Kings uniform. This season in 31 games, the 37-year-old American has won eleven games and has a goals-against-average of 3.50 and a save percentage of .876.
A former third round pick of the Kings in the 2005 draft, Quick began his NHL career in the 2007-2008 season. He won two Stanley Cups with Los Angeles, in 2012 and 2014.
Quick is in the final year of his contract allowing whoever acquires him to not worry about having an aging goaltender on their books heading into next season
As for the Golden Knights, the team is looking to solidify its options in net, while its two goaltenders Laurent Brossoit and Logan Thompson are currently on the sidelines.
Adin Hill and Michael Hutchinson are currently attempting to hold the fort in front of the goal.
Thompson’s surprise outbreak this season, with 20 wins, a 2.66 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage, helped Vegas rise to the top of the Pacific Division.
The race for the top is tight despite the Golden Knights’ stellar performance recently, going 6-1-3 in its last 10 games,
The Kings have the same number of points as Vegas, while the Seattle Kraken and Edmonton Oilers are four points behind.
