Former Yamaha rider, Jorge Lorenzo, has reacted furiously to Fabio Quartararo’s Assen MotoGP incident. The French rider on Sunday faced the turn five incident with Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro at TT Circuit Assen.
The incident saw the somewhat overeager Quartararo collect the RS-GP into the gravel after an unsuccessful overtake on the fifth lap, with Espargaro forced to regroup to fifteenth before an impressive fightback to fourth and the win of Francesco Bagnaia.
While Quartararo retired from the race following a second crash at the same corner seven laps later.
“It is very fickle, with the sole exception of Aleix [Espargaro] and Quartararo. And those who are constant are not very fast, or at least not fast enough to win the title.” Lorenzo said.
“Bastianini started very well, for example, and no one expected all those mistakes, seeing the solidity and that very safe guide. Instead he started to fall, to go slower, and this shows that MotoGP remains a very mental sport.
“Then there is Bagnaia: for me the Ducati is a bit superior to all the other bikes, but he crashed too many times due to the excessive pressure.
“Fabio in Assen was unexpectedly betrayed by that corner, but Bagnaia made more mistakes.” Lorenzo added.
Lorenzo insisted Quartararo was the favourite to finish the race at Dutch GP. But unfortunately he has a bad weekend.
“It is true that Quartararo has reopened the fight a bit, proving he is human, but I don’t expect any other mistakes from him.” Lorenzo said.
“Compared to Aleix and Pecco, he has already been champion, he has a bit of advantage and will be less nervous than them.” he added.
