Jorge Lorenzo Wins Fifth MotoGP Virtual Grand Prix

Former Yamaha MotoGP rider Jorge Lorenzo won at virtual race at Silverstone circuit on Sunday. The Spaniard made his debut in the esports series alongside a host of other big names from the MotoGP grid.

Speaking at GPone, Lorenzo has admitted that the MotoGP virtual race is quite different from the real challenge despite having similar rules.

“It’s completely different world, because on a normal bike you are feeling the bike. But in terms of concentration, it is quite similar, since you have to be very practise, so it can be a good training.” Lorenzo said.

“For the moment I need to understand when and where the next test will be. I saw KTM testing in Austria, so hopefully we can make a test as soon as possible. I had a lot of fun with my bike in Sepang, and I’m looking forward to do it again.” Lorenzo added.

Lorenzo backed with Yamaha in MotoGP 2020 as premium test rider and possible get wildcard to race with Japanese manufacturer in few race in European Grand Prix.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Dorna Sports has canceled its wildcard system in all three categories for this season, which will leave Lorenzo without a ride for Barcelona GP.

“On the one side I am sad, since I really wanted to race, but on the other side I am aware that without enough tests I don’t think I could be competitive. That’s okay.” Lorenzo said.

“In any case, now I keep training, obviously, not as hard as when I was a professional racer, but I keep fit and I try to keep as healthy as possible.” Lorenzo added.

Lorenzo made the decision to retire from MotoGP at the end of 2019. However, Yamaha admitted that the three-time champion is still considered one of the best MotoGP riders of all times.
