Three racers had bad luck on the first day of the 2025 MotoGP test at the Sepang Circuit, Malaysia, Wednesday (5/2), because they had accidents that caused in broken bones.
The three racers are defending champion Jorge Martin, Trackhouse racer Raul Fernandez, and Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team rider, Fabio Di Giannantonio.
Aprilia confirmed that Martin suffered fractures in several parts of his hands and feet after going highside at the Sepang MotoGP test. Martin will return to Europe to run the operation.
“Jorge Martin suffered a closed fracture to the head of the 5th metacarpal of his right hand and closed fractures to the 3rd, 4th and 5th metatarsals of his left foot,” said Aprilia’s official statement.
“Martin has undergone a CT and MRI scan, both of which showed negative results for other injuries. He will stay in hospital overnight and tomorrow he will fly back to Europe to undergo surgery on his right hand and left leg,” continued Aprilia.
Sepang MotoGP test is scheduled to take place over three days, from 5 to 7 February.
The 2025 MotoGP pre-season test then continues to Thailand at the Buriram Circuit on February 12-13.
After that, the teams and racers have less than two weeks of recovery time before the opening series of the 2025 MotoGP in MotoGP Thailand 2025, 28 February to 2 March.
Before the Martin incident, Raul Fernandez experienced more serious accidents at the Sepang Circuit. The Trackhouse rider had to undergo surgery in Barcelona after suffering a fractured metacarpal bone in his left hand.
Finally, Pertamina Enduro VR46 racer Fabio Di Giannantonio had to undergo surgery after suffering the same left shoulder fracture he previously experienced during free practice for the Austrian MotoGP last season.
“Fabio Di Giannantonio has been diagnosed with a fractured left collarbone after an accident at Turn 5 at the Sepang Test. He will fly back tonight to Italy to undergo surgery,” said the official statement from Pertamin Enduro VR46.
