Jorge Martin follows in the special footsteps of legend Valentino Rossi in becoming MotoGP world champion in 2024.
Martin ensured that the 2024 MotoGP title was his in the final race of the season at the Barcelona MotoGP. The 10 point advantage over Francesco Bagnaia made the Spaniard win his first title in premier class motorbike racing.
Bagnaia, who lost the title because his main competitor took it, actually smiled when he saw Martin win the first title in the MotoGP class.
“I just look at Jorge. We know each other very well, and I think if someone else can win the title, I’m happy,” said Bagnaia.
According to Bagnaia, Martin deserves to win the 2024 MotoGP title. Seeing Martin happy, Bagnaia was also happy to see him.
The 26-year-old racer set a unique record that was previously recorded by Rossi, namely becoming world champion with the status of a racer from an independent or non-manufacturing team.
Martin is a Prima Pramac Racing team racer who uses a Ducati motorbike, while the Italian manufacturer has its own team, namely the Ducati Lenovo Team, which is strengthened by Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini.
Martin was also recorded as the first racer from an independent team to win in the MotoGP era and was the first independent racer to win the highest class title after Rossi in 2001.
23 years ago, Rossi won the MotoGP title while strengthening the Nastro Azzuro team which used a Honda motorbike. At that time, the Honda factory team called Repsol YPF Honda Team was strengthened by Tohru Ukawa and Alex Criville.
Because of the good achievements of the Nastro Azzuro team, the Honda factory team recruited Rossi in the 2002 racing season.
Meanwhile something different happened to Martin. Martin’s achievements did not make Ducati glance at him. In the 2025 MotoGP racing season, Martin is certain to strengthen the Aprilia team. Meanwhile, the Ducati team next season will be strengthened by Bagnaia and Marc Marquez.
