Jorginho Again Fails to Execute Penalty for Italy

The legend of the Italian National Team, Francesco Totti is concerned to see Jorginho who gets so many negative comments after failing to execute a penalty for Gli Azzurri. Totti also tried to defend Jorginho, where he felt it was a natural penalty miss, especially when taken in the minutes before the game ended.

As someone who used to score goals from penalties very often, Totti admitted that he always felt pressure when he wanted to execute a kick. Kicking a penalty is not an easy job, so what Jorginho did in the Italy vs Switzerland match on Saturday 13 November 2021 should not make many people criticize Jorginho too much.

As is known, Italy had to draw 1-1 with Switzerland at the Stadio Olimpico, in the Group C match of the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers in the European Zone. Switzerland was able to take the lead through Silvan Widmer (11′), while Italy could only equalize through Giovanni Di Lorenzo (36′).

Gli Azzurri had an opportunity to add to their chances at the end of the second half, with a penalty kick. Jorginho, who advanced as the executor, failed to add points for Italy after his shot bounced over the Swiss crossbar.

After failing to take a penalty kick, many parties considered Jorginho’s mentality to be disturbed and haunted by the shadow of failure. However, Totti considered Jorginho’s failure to be normal.

Totti said there was a lot of pressure on Jorginho’s shoulders, especially when the Chelsea player had to take that shot in the closing minutes of the game. While still active as a footballer, Totti scored more goals from penalty kicks, he admitted it was not easy.

“I think you feel the pressure when you have that kind of responsibility on your shoulders, especially in the last minute of the game, so it’s not easy to take a penalty,” Totti said. “I’ve always been told I score most of my goals with penalties, but you still have to convert them. It’s not easy,” he said.

Currently, Italy must win three points from Northern Ireland on Tuesday 16 November 2021 if they want to qualify for the 2022 World Cup. But on condition that Switzerland loses or gets a draw from Bulgaria.

The match against Northern Ireland became very crucial because Italy failed to win over Switzerland. So, it’s no wonder that in the end Jorginho was attacked by Azzurri fans because because of this midfielder, Italy had to fight even harder against Northern Ireland.
