AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho has expressed interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers star Ruben Neves as the he looks to attract more Premier League players.
It’s been a few seasons since Neves had a great campaign in Europe with Wolves. Although his club’s form has fallen dramatically since then, the Portuguese midfielder still attracts a lot of interest from several clubs in continental competitions.
Speaking at the beginning of April, Wolves boss Bruno Lage insisted £100m is the type of figure his club should be looking for.
“What I know is we have a special player here with us. What he is doing this season is very good.” Lage said.
“I think also the way we play, he can show a better Ruben, and also the way he plays puts our team on a different level.” be added.
United are currently looking to improve their formation, with Neves highly regarded as a possible alternative to Frenkie de Jong.
New manager Erik ten Hag is expected to give borrowers Donny van de Beek, Andreas Pereira and James Garner a chance to impresi during the preparation.
According to reports, Neves is on the list of options to help improve Mourinho’s side midfield for next season ahead of the Europa League.
The outlet reports that Mourinho prefers to have players who come from the Premier League ready.
The former United and Tottenham Hotspur manager is known for hiring Premier League talents for the Italian club such as Tammy Abraham, Rui Patricio and Anley Maitland-Niles.
It was recently reported that the Roma manager has already transferred former United midfielder Nemanja Matic for free.
United are currently prioritising recruiting a midfielder but will have to rush to secure their goals.
It is rumoured that Arsenal and Barcelona are very interested in signing the midfielder this summer.
Wolves failed to secure European football for the second consecutive season, but raised Neves’s demanding price deal to around £100 million.
